Summary: In this lecture, Martina Dethlefs will present the principle of multilingualism in the European Union and its specificities. Moreover, she will explain how an effective communication in 24 languages works in practice and will give you a glimpse into her personal experiences as an interpreter for the European Commission.
Speaker Biography: Martina Dethlefs has been a conference interpreter for the European Commission since 2012, working from English, French, Spanish and Italian into German. Moreover, she is also active in the field of international cooperation in the Directorate General for Interpretation. In this function, she was responsible for the coordination of the EU-contribution to the Exhibition on Multilingualism in the European Union currently displayed at the SISU Museum of World Languages.
