Aksonethip Somvorachit, from the Lao PDR, was one of 2016 SISU MBA Full-time students. Her final thesis was rated as an outstanding SISU MBA Thesis of Recommendation. In her eyes, the two years that she spent in SISU MBA was a real adventure as well as a rewarding experience. Let's see what she has to share with us.

China, where my heart lingers...

China develops at a very rapid rate but does not lose its culture and tradition along the way. It has always been one of the most unique, influential countries worth being introduced to and learned about to me ever since i was very young. To me, China is like a person living his life to its fullest.

I used to ask my parents as well as myself about how the Chinese was able to come up with such great mindsets and ideology, the operations and techniques, theories and mysteries. Well, after the few lessons I participated in SISU MBA, my questions were answered.

Prior to receiving the Chinese Government Scholarship here, I had earned a bachelor's degree in business management and had been working full time since my first year in university with Vansana Hotel Group, specifically for the headquarter, Vansana Riverside Hotel. I realized many pros and cons of the managerial factors that have been reflected by guests' feedbacks. Further MBA education might help me to think deeper and act better to attract more guests and strengthen the relationships with customers.

A journey beyond expectations

I was convinced that at SISU MBA my proposed course and institutions would be able to engrave me with crucial knowledge such as the essential areas of business management, especially with the fact that this university has had a lot of experience working with international institutions as well as students. Hence, I chose it as my first choice without any hesitation and I can now proudly say, I made the right choice.

SISU MBA, with the help of each and every professor, faculty member, staff and classmate, who are now as much a family as my own, has made one of the most significant milestones of my life, incredibly. The courses allowed me to gain a critical appreciation of the role and practice of business management in local and maybe even global business. I also developed strategic thinking and high level critical, analytical and problem solving skills around management issues, including organizational change and managing people across different operations. My classmates have shaped the otherwise challenging learning journey into a heart-warming home away from home.

I tried to apply my work experience to my assignments and vice-versa to be as productive as possible in both categories. Hence, in addition to the newly attained knowledge, I was able to integrate it into my final thesis, which I never ever thought would result as being voted as an outstanding MBA Thesis of Recommendation.

I certainly believe that the mentioned skills would act as the key to establishing my future plans for a sustainable development and poverty eradication in regards to functionally prepare our people for globalization. It would result in more work and business opportunities for our citizens, enhancing their capabilities to be more financially stable and secure.

I was able to experience the actual situations and importance of theories that I have learned, such as human resource management, marketing, organizational and customer behaviors towards different aspects of the available services at the hotel(s), which has helped me to understand the definitions and effects of those areas deeply, as a result of being employed during my period of study.

Hence, SISU MBA has equipped me with more specific, feasible skills and understanding, rather than just the fact that it is fundamental to build a good team of working professionals through recruiting, training people via performance appraisals, motivation, workplace communication, safety and planning in order to ensure the longevity of organizations.

SISU MBA leads me to a better future

SISU has introduced the details and knowledge in regards to effective business management that have not yet been widely acknowledged, questioned, researched or maybe in some cases, even discovered in our country. The stated truly increases my creditability and professionalism in these areas. As a result, I have been guided towards my goal to be a successful generalist or specialist in the development of business management that is most suitable, yet effective to be utilized.

I especially aim towards developing an effective business management system in order to survive the increasingly competitive labor market as our country would be entering the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in the near future. Thus, the AEC would open the gate to a vast variety of well-trained and high-standard professionals to roam freely within the ASEAN countries for employment, causing the possibility of our locals’ unemployment rate to fluctuate due to the lack of certain requirements. The small and medium domestic enterprises or even the majority of local businesses may also struggle as foreign investments and products step into the picture, due to the fact that organizations without a proper management would have a higher tendency to be less effective and even lose profits as well as creditability.

I would like to prevent the mentioned issues from arising or increasing by using my acquired knowledge to successfully find solutions from the very root management of educational institutions which might be the best place to start as those are the birthplaces of our future human resources whether they would be future employees, employers as well as entrepreneurs. I would try my best to apply my knowledge to spread the importance as broadly as possible in order to ensure the socio-economic growth of our country.
