Agreement Signing Ceremony
On the morning of Oct. 30th, 2016, Dr. Mitchel B. Wallerstein, President of Baruch College, The City University of New York, visited Shanghai International Studies University. A delegation, including Dr. Fenwick Huss, Dean of Zicklin School of Business, Mr. Myung-Soo Lee, Vice Provost for Global Strategies of the College, and Dr. Hu Qing, Associate Dean for Academic Initiatives and Innovation of the college.
Jiang Feng, Chair of the University Council, and Cao Deming, President of SISU, met with the delegation guests. Jiang spoke highly of strategic significance of the underway Confucius Institute for business the two schools are cooperatively building. He said that by creating the institute in New York, the world finance center, we are actually creating a platform where the Chinese language could be learnt, Chinese culture be appreciated and China be familiarized, and that it would play a positive role both in promoting talents exchange and academic discussions between the two countries, and cultivating top talents equipped not only with expertise but with knowledge of the political, economic and cultural backgrounds of the two countries. Jiang also extended appreciation towards staff members from both schools for their hard work and efficiency.
Both parties discussing further cooperation prospects
President Cao introduced to the guests the history of SISU and its vision of nurturing outstanding and internationalized “multilingual” talents and the orientation of building a distinctive and world first class foreign studies university. He also expressed his appreciation for the effective cooperation between each other and his satisfaction with the progress made in aspects of constructing Confucius Institute for Business at Baruch College, developing Joint instruction and research programs since the signing of MOU by the two schools. He pointed out that the US and China are the two of the most important economies in the world, and that the cooperation between the two universities would strengthen mutual learning, communication and understanding between the youth of the two countries, for which SISU will provide forceful support.
President Wallerstein said that since the MOU was signed, both parties have rapidly started to implement the cooperating items mentioned in the MOU. He is very pleased to see that the preparation work for building the Confucius Institute for Business and the joint MSC program in digital marketing are well implemented. He expressed much appreciation for the strong support given by SISU in the process and showed immense interest in elevating the cooperation between the two universities to the level of strategic partnership.
Opening Ceremony of the Institute
After themeeting, President Cao and President Wallerstein signed the Agreement onMSC Program on Digital Marketing between Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, the City University of New York and School of Business and Management, Shanghai International Studies University. Letters of Appointment were issued to Prof. Wang Weijun at School of Business and Management, SISU and Prof. Hu Qing of Zicklin School of Business, the two of whom co-chair as the institute director. The presidents also hosted the opening ceremony of the Institute for Business Analytics and Digital Market. Also present at the Signing and Opening ceremony are Ms Zhang Hongling, head of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, also the host of the meeting, Ms Zhang Xuemei, head of the Office of Confucius Institute, Mr. Wang Youyong, head of the Office of Research Affairs, Associate /Prof. Xu Yong, SBM Party Branch Secretary, Executive Dean Prof. Pan Cong, Prof. Wang Weijun at the Department of Information Management, and A/Prof. Chen Xinli, director of the Office of International Program Development and Certification.

Founded in 1847, Baruch College is the most prestigious college of the City University of New York, with its Zicklin School of Business being the most ancient public business school in the States and also the largest business school approved by AACSB and Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It offering a wide range of programs from undergraduate to postgraduate degree. Its MBA program is listed among the top three in New York City, ranking right after New York University and Columbia University. Among its 130 thousand alumni, in New York City only there are over 100 thousand active in famous companies and institutes like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, City Bank, Morgan Stanley UBS and so on. The School of Business and Management, SISU has started to work with Zicklin School of Businessfor the preparation of the joint MSC program on digital marketing since Oct. 2015.
