From July 31st to August 12th, nine MBA students and five undergraduate students of SBM took part in Business Study Tour. Business Study Tour (BST) aims to provide students of SBM with the opportunity to study abroad for a short period. Students can know about the latest business ideas and improve their cross-cultural management consciousness, which is an important part of developing talents for borderless management of SBM. This tour is held by SBM of SISU and Hertford College, two teachers, Mr Hu Shuguo and Ms WANG Ying, headed the group.

BST in UK includes three parts: business courses, humanity courses and cultural experiences. Professor Arhat Virdi from Said Business School of Oxford gave lectures of business courses, covering game theory, finance, accounting, management and philosophy. Professor Bruce, an experienced anthropologist, gave students tough tasks to train their problem-solving ability. He also gave lectures about team building and communication skills. Professors in Oxford left a deep impression on students with their profound knowledge, rigorous scholarship and friendliness. And through these courses, students learned to observe business behaviors from different respects and improved their understanding of business. Through two weeks’ study, students improved a lot in logical thinking and oral English.

Professor Sandro and Megan gave lectures in humanity courses to help students with history and culture of Oxford and UK. Their lectures gave students general information of Oxford’s development. Besides lectures, there were also activities for students to take part in, such as visits to London Museum, college libraries, Oxford traditional sports punting, classical concerts and Shakespeare’s plays. All these activities further deepened students' understanding of the lectures, and the long history of British culture.

In order to examine students’ learning, students were asked to make group presentations. On August 11th, students made presentations in six groups. They spent several days preparing for it. Their topics included recently popular games, Internet celebrity economy, and different education modes, which sparked heated discussion. Professor Hemingway attended presentations performed by SISU students for several years. He thought highly of their presentations and complimented that these students covered wide fields with their unique points of view. Students talked about current trend, Chinese traditional culture, Chinese Internet culture, tourist spots and global lecture company, which triggered brain storms among them.

On behalf of SBM of SISU, Mr Hu Shuguo also delivered a speech. He expressed sincere appreciation to International Program Office of Hertford College, and mentioned that students and teachers of SBM enjoyed the study and experience in oxford. And this would be an unforgettable experience of them. He also expressed the wish to promote the program to a higher level.

In the end, the college held a candlelight dinner in the college hall. They expressed their appreciation to SISU and issued certificates to students for the accomplishment of the program.

SBM Business Study Tour in Oxford program developed from the 8-year cooperative project of Hertford college of Oxford and SBM of SISU. Eight years ago, SBM introduced summer study tour to SISU. This program is widely accepted by students from SBM, SES, SJC and SOE. The project consistently arranges appropriate courses for students, every year the two sides update the content of the project according to students' feedback. This year, under the support of relevant departments of SISU, the project started to take MBA students to further promote the internationalization of MBA students. Therefore, Hertford College introduced the Oxford Said Business School faculty to further enhance the accuracy of the project, which is recognized by both MBA students and undergraduate students. For future cooperation, the two sides had discussions aiming to create more wonderful programs!
