As the saying goes, the way of learning is the unity of knowledge and practice. To prepare MBA students for future career and help them make better informed decisions, the 2019 SISU MBA Mentor-Mentee (hereinafter referred to as M2) project was officially launched on the evening of September 22. The platform will connect professionals with MBA students that more or less have had difficulties dealing with people at workplace or making progress at work. Thus, the M2 project is sure to provide guidance for SISU MBA students in their personal development.

Opening Speech—Aptitude and Inspiration

The case classroom was overwhelmed by MBA Students’ enthusiasm even after the autumn rain. Prof. Xu Yong, Party General Secretary of SISU SBM, delivered an opening speech, expressing good wishes for and confidence in the success of the M2 project. Afterwards, a senior mentor from Beijing Asia Creation Technology Co., Ltd (ACTL) gave a detailed introduction about the company. Dr. Paul, the founder of ACTL, was awarded Honorary Mentor of SISU SBM, inviting further engagement of MBA students in the M2 project.

Mentors’ Presentation—Talent and Expertise

Dr. Paul, the M2 mentor for this session, showcased professionalism and expertise in his explanation about what it means to be a mentor. In response to students’ questions about career change, Dr. Paul helped them dig deeper to find out the underlying problem. His resourcefulness and witty speech drew continuous laughter and applause. In fact, the experienced M2 mentors have diverse professional and academic backgrounds from different industries, always ready to offer career advice and emotional support to students. In this session, they made insightful and fun presentations covering different topics, including personal growth, leadership and career planning. The SBM Career Development Office also gave out detailed brochures as an important reference for the subsequent selection of mentors. Liu Si, one of the mentors, is also among the first generation of MBA students in SISU SBM. She was an outstanding student whose presence sets an inspiring example for the younger MBA students.

 Q&As—Searching and Sharing

In the Q&A session, students put forward a variety of practical questions, such as how to maintain work-life balance, and how to start a business. Mentors responded the questions by sharing personal experience and led students to make an in-depth analysis of their career, relationships with others and with themselves. Such friendly exchange between mentors and students was a rewarding experience for all.

The 2019 SISU MBA Mentor-Mentee project has built a platform for SISU MBA students in efforts to connect classrooms with enterprises. We have reason to believe that the M2 project will continue to surprise us with even more exciting events!
